WYOMING – The Big Piney High School Lady Punchers volleyball team boarded the bus for a busy, action-packed schedule featuring eight matches over the course of five days.
Big Piney opened the weekend with an away game against Kemmerer on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Lady Punchers fell, 3-1. Kemmerer won a neck-and-neck first set that went beyond 25 points, 26-24.
Big Piney battled back to win the second set, 25-16. Kemmerer responded with wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-19 and 25-13.
Next up, the Lady Punchers traveled to the Foothills Classic, hosted by Wind River High School, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7.
On Friday, Big Piney played Shoshoni, Wyoming Indian High School and Greybull. The Lady Punchers defeated Wyoming Indian High School in a 2-0 sweep, 21-10 and 21-8.
Big Piney fell to Shoshoni, 2-0 (21-8 and 21-19), before coming up short against Greybull, 2-0 (21-16 in both sets).
On Saturday, the Lady Punchers fell to Dubois in two sets, 21-10 and 21-15. The third game pitted Big Piney against Tongue River with the Lady Punchers coming up short in two sets, 21-16 and 21-10.
The final game between Big Piney and Wind River resulted in a 1-1 draw. Big Piney won the first set, 23-21, while Wind River prevailed in the second set, 21-7.
Tuesday featured an epic, point-for-point, five-set battle between Big Piney and Farson-Eden on the road.
Farson won the first set, 25-17. Digging deep, the Lady Punchers turned the tables to win the second and third sets, both by a 25-22 margin. Farson pulled out a win in the fourth set, 25-18 and went on to prevail in the tiebreaker fifth set, 15-8.
The Lady Punchers are back on the road to compete at the Big Horn Invitational from Sept. 13-14.
