PHS golfers compete in Evanston

EVANSTON – The regular season for Wyoming high school golf teams wound down this weekend, with the Pinedale High School Wranglers and Lady Wrangler competing at the Evanston Invite hosted by Purple Sage Golf Course on Sept. 4.

The Pinedale boys placed second as a team with a score of 356 strokes following a single round. The Wranglers beat Rock Springs, Green River, Kemmerer and Lyman.

The Lady Wranglers fielded a single athlete and did not place as a team. 

Senior Elyn Bowers tied for fourth place in varsity girls, shooting 94.

In boys’ varsity, junior Dune Mecartney led the Wrangler pack with a fifth-place finish at 86 strokes.

Fellow junior Decker Normington took seventh place with a score of 88. Trace Fildey, also a junior, rounded out the top 10 for the Wranglers with a ninth-place finish. Fildey shot 90 strokes.

Junior Grant Carter posted a score of 92 strokes with senior Alex Gosar shooting 99.

Pinedale golfers tee off at the regional tournament hosted by Cody from Sept. 12-13 followed by the 3A state championships in Rawlins from Sept. 20-21.
