LANDER – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team dove into the 2024 fall season with the Lander Relays on Friday, August 30, followed by the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon hosted by Lander on Saturday.
Sublette County advanced to fifth place on the team leaderboard at the Lander Relays with a combined score of 168, beating Kemmerer at 164.
On Saturday, swimmers were required to complete five events – the 100-butterfly, 100-backstroke, 50-freestyle, 100-backstroke and 100-freestyle – to place in the pentathlon. Final placings were determined by the total time for all five events.
Freshman Maggie Williams broke into the top 20 at the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon, finishing 15th overall in a field of 54 contestants with a cumulative time of 5 minutes, 42 seconds.
Lander Relays top 10
On Friday at the Lander Relays, Williams snagged third place in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 1:17.13. Williams also placed ninth in the 50-freestyle with a time of 29.72 seconds.
Junior Libby Olson placed in the top 10 in two events. Olson took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 2:31.90.
Crossing the finish line for the 100-freestyle in 1:08.41, Olson placed sixth in the event.
Senior Maggie Walker captured fifth place in the 100-backstroke, reaching the finish line in 1:16.15. Walker went on to place seventh in the 50-freestyle, posting a time of 29.07 seconds.
In the 200-freestyle, senior Alexis Thompson scooped up fifth place with a time of 2:33.38.
Sophomore Eva Scherbel picked up seventh place in the 100-freestyle, timing in at 1:09.24. Junior Kamia Runyan placed eighth in the event, posting a time of 1:10.38, while freshman Mesa Landers took 10th place at 1:11.53.
Runyan also secured 10th place in the 100-yard breaststroke, timing in at 1:36.78.
In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Matazi Landers pulled into ninth place with a time of 1:24.27.
Relay highlights included a fifth-place finish for Walker, Williams, junior Clairee Bingham and Matazi Landers in the 200-medley relay at 2:13.13.
Junior Hadlee Francis, senior KaLee Bohnet, Runyan and Scherbel achieved seventh place in the 400-medley relay, posting a time of 5:46.79.
In the 200-freestyle relay, Williams, Olson, Bingham and Mesa Landers took sixth place at 2:02.88. Walker, Scherbel, Matazi Landers and Runyan placed seventh in the event, timing in at 2:03.18.
Thompson, Francis, Bohnet and junior Anna Wexels came in 10th place in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 2:17.52.
Rounding out relay top-10 finishes, Thompson, junior Bryn Arne, sophomore Addison Kinnaman and Olson secured ninth place in the 400-freestyle relay at 5:03.53.

• 100-breaststroke: Bingham in 12th place at 1:37.95 and Smith 13th at 1:38.58.
