CODY – The Wyoming high school golf postseason commenced the previous weekend with regional meets across the state. Pinedale High School fielded eight athletes at the 3A West Conference Championships hosted by Olive Glenn Golf Course in Cody from September 12-13.
Senior Elyn Bowers clinched fifth place on the varsity girls’ leaderboard with a two-day score of 201 strokes. Bowers’ fifth-place finish garnered the senior 3A West all-conference accolades.
Bowers shot 95 strokes in the first round and 106 in the second.
The varsity boys’ team placed fifth overall with 756 strokes, beating Lovell and Lyman.
Junior Decker Normington led the Wrangler boys at regionals, tying for 15th place and shooting 184 over two days. Normington shot 91 on Thursday and 93 on Friday.
Up next for golfers is the 3A state tournament hosted by Rawlins from September 20-21. Athletes representing Pinedale include Bowers in varsity girls and sophomore Braxton Costello, Normington, junior Dune Mecartney, junior Grant Carter and senior Alex Gosar in varsity boys.
“The team has been trying to prepare for a tough golf course and potentially rough weather conditions, but they have been working hard to be successful,” head coach Luke Myszewski said. “Overall, the season has been fairly successful with a couple of second-place team finishes and top-10 honors for Braxton and Elyn both, including a home individual win for Braxton. We are excited to see how the team performs at state.”
