PINEDALE – The high-school winter basketball season wrapped up in mid-March, followed by the release of annual post-season awards. The Wyoming Coaches’ Association recognized two outstanding Pinedale High School Wrangler basketball players – juniors Josh Gosar and Owen McMillen – with 3A All-Conference honors.

“I’m excited to have two All-Conference players this year, and Josh and Owen both deserve the honor,” said Head Coach Marcus Helland.

Gosar played a tenacious offense, able to sink shots with accuracy from inside and outside the perimeter and from the free-throw line. The junior tallied 388 season points and led the 3A West Conference in scoring at 16.2 points per game.

On Jan. 21, Gosar netted 39 points at a home game against Mountain View, the second-best performance in Wyoming for all classes and the top 3A performance in the state.

Gosar scored eight of nine free throws against Thermopolis on March 3, shooting at 89 percent from the charity stripe. Squaring off against Kemmerer on Dec. 20, Gosar tossed in five 3-pointers. He posted 27 points against Mountain View on Feb. 24.

Gosar totaled 124 rebounds for the season, ranked No. 10 in the 3A West Conference. He grabbed nine rebounds against Thermopolis on both Jan. 7 and March 3.

On offense, Gosar delivered 57 assists for the season. Defensively, Gosar snagged 28 steals over the season’s course.

“Josh really stepped up as a leader this year both vocally and with his play,” said Coach Helland. “He loves to compete and brought that every day to practice, which helped everyone on the team throughout the season. He improved significantly from last year on his decision making and eagerness to guard, which contributed tremendously to our team’s success this year.”

McMillen excelled on both ends of the court, particularly at sinking deep outside shots for the Wranglers. Netting 259 points for the season, McMillen led the team in 3-pointers, shooting at 35 percent from the outside.

McMillen ranked seventh in the 3A West Conference and 10th in the classification statewide for scoring, averaging 13 points per game.

During the March 3 game against Thermopolis, McMillen sank six 3-pointers, tying for the second-best performance in the 3A conference in Wyoming. He tossed in five 3-pointers against Lyman on Feb. 10 and again against Lovell on March 4.

McMillen shot at 57 percent from the outside against both Cheyenne South on Dec. 16 and Big Piney on Jan. 6. The junior tallied an overall field-goal percentage of 60 percent against Jackson on Jan. 13.

Season highlights for McMillen included scoring 26 points in the March 3 game against Thermopolis. He netted 22 points against Cheyenne South on Dec. 16.

Offensively, McMillen made 24 rebounds and 33 assists throughout the season. On defense, McMillen grabbed 67 rebounds and snatched 31 steals.

“Owen started the year off playing extremely well both offensively and defensively,” said Coach Helland. “He got hurt and was sick, so he ended up missing four games this year. I’m proud of how he came back from that and really got back into his groove the last few weeks of the season. He was a vital part of this team as a shot maker and using his length and athleticism on the defensive end.”
