VERNAL, UTAH – The 2023 spring outdoor track season finally kicked off for the Pinedale High School Lady Wranglers and Wranglers at the Uintah Invitational hosted by Vernal, Utah, on Saturday, April 1.

Pinedale fielded a smaller squad of only 15 athletes at the meet, yet still captured ninth place overall out of 13 schools from across southern Wyoming and northern Utah, tallying 38 points.

“We took a small group of athletes to Vernal, Utah, at the start of Spring Break and were able to get our first track meet of the year,” said Head Coach Kyle Sullivan. “Fortunately, the weather cooperated and we had a wonderful day competing. Many of our athletes performed very well and started off the season with great marks.”

Junior Katyana Dexter dominated throwing events, snagging gold in the girls’ varsity discus finals with a throw measured in at 121 feet, 5 inches. Dexter trounced the runner-up from Green River by nearly 13 feet.

Measuring her shot-put throw in at 34-10, Dexter snapped up second place in the finals for the event. She improved significantly from her throw of 31-07 in the preliminaries.

Dexter prequalified for State in the discus.

Sophomore Madison Antonino took second place in the girls’ varsity 1600-meter run, clocking the event in at 5 minutes, 21.99 seconds. The race for the top two spots came down to the wire. Antonino finished within 6 seconds of the first-place competitor from Price, Utah, and crossed the finish line 20 seconds ahead of the No. 3 runner.

Senior Stephanie Resendiz, sophomore Matazi Landers, sophomore Isabelle Rigo and Antonino secured second place in the girls’ 1600-meter sprint medley relay, timing in at 4:35.93. The team prequalified for State.

In the boys’ 4x200-meter relay, sophomore Ian Obod, junior Andy DeClue, freshman Sergio Duarte Villa and sophomore Joey Bain bagged fourth place, posting a time of 1:43.67.

Resendiz captured third place out of 66 contestants in the girls’ 200-meter dash, hitting the finish line in 28.47 seconds. The senior also earned sixth place out of a field of 74 athletes in the 100-meter dash at 13.65 seconds.

Clocking in at 2:53.95 in the girls’ 800-meter run, Landers took sixth place in the event.

• 200-meter dash: Alicia Dexter in 21st place at 30.24 seconds, Rigo in 25th place at 30.46 seconds and Noble in 34th at 30.83 seconds.
• Long jump: Alicia Dexter in 10th place at 14-05 ¼.
• Discus preliminaries: Alicia Dexter in 35th at 52-04 and Dover in 49th at 34-05.

• 100-meter dash: Obod in 22nd place at 12.34 seconds, Dalton Fryman in 41st place at 12.73 seconds, Duarte Villa in 48th at 12.97 seconds and DeClue in 51st at 13.11 seconds.
• 400-meter run: Bain in 25th place at 59.48 seconds.
• 200-meter dash: Bain in 10th place at 24.91 seconds, Fryman in 34th at 26.49 seconds, Duarte Villa in 39th at 27.06 seconds and DeClue in 41st at 27.15 seconds.
• Discus preliminaries: Doug Dexter in 13th place at 103-02 and DeClue in 32nd at 88-05 ½.
• Shot put preliminaries: Doug Dexter in 26th place at 34-01, Duarte Villa in 57th at 26-01 and Fryman in 68th at 23-03.
