PINEDALE – During an action-packed week featuring three home games, the Lady Wrangler soccer team pulled out its second win of the season against 3A West rival Powell on Saturday, April 10. Pinedale held possession for most of the match and took advantage of the situation to score two goals while Lady Wrangler defense prevented Powell from scoring.

“Powell has been a tough team of us in the past, but we were able to hold them off and stay strong after such a tough game on Friday (against Cody)” said head coach Shanda Jensen.

Senior Sydney Jensen and sophomore Erin Fogerty scored the two goals for the Lady Wranglers.

Senior Rita Mata played an aggressive offense with eight shots on goal. Fellow senior Reese Noble kept the Panther defense on its toes with three shots on goal.

Alaine Liserio, a senior, played goalie and picked up two saves the few times Powell broke through into Lady Wrangler territory.

The win against Powell followed a tough fight against Cody, another tenacious 3A West opponent, on Friday, April 9. Cody held possession and kept the pressure on Pinedale defense for most of the game to take the win, 5-0.

Liserio served as goalie and tallied up an impressive 17 saves.

“The team worked well together against Cody,” Coach Jensen said. “Cody has dominated us in the past, but we held strong nearly the whole game. Due to an injury to our goalie, Alaine Liserio stepped up and did well.”

Mata and junior Emmaline Vrska maintained pressure on offense against Cody with four and three shots on goal respectively.

On Tuesday, April 13, the Lady Wranglers took on 3A West powerhouse Lander. Pinedale battled sustained wind gusts and cold temperatures in addition to a dogged offensive from the Tigers. Lander carried the day with the win, 7-1.

Junior Olivia Edwards shot the ball into the net for Pinedale in the second half.

The Lady Wranglers struggled to gain possession of the ball offensively, although Mata, Noble and sophomore Molly Murphy each made a shot on goal.

Liserio caught 16 saves as goalie. Junior Cora Murphy subbed in as goalie during the second half and made four saves.
