Indoor track season opens in Gillette

GILLETTE – Gillette hosted the season opener for indoor track – the final winter sport to get the green light from the Wyoming High School Activities Association – on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16.

To meet WHSAA limits on participation, meet organizers split the invitational over two days. Half the teams competed on Friday while Pinedale and six other schools took the stage on Saturday.

The Wranglers took fourth place in both the boys’ and girls’ varsity divisions.

Pinedale’s senior class proved its mettle and returned with several first-place wins.

Isabella Romasko was the only athlete to take first place in three events over the weekend. Romasko swept the competition in the girls’ varsity 55-meter dash, taking first in the finals at 7.60 seconds.

Romasko took first in the finals for the 55-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.10 seconds. Capping the day off with another win, Romasko dominated the triple jump, clearing 34 feet, 7 3/4 inches, more than 1 1/2 feet longer than the jump recorded by the runner-up from Sheridan.

Senior Teagan Bowers came in first place in the boys’ varsity triple jump finals, measuring in at 42-4 1/2. Bowers’ leap was over two feet longer than his opponent’s from Sheridan.

Bowers took second in the boys’ long jump, clearing 20-01. Bowers also picked up sixth place in the 55-meter dash finals at 7.10 seconds.

Fellow senior Riley Dauwen placed second in the girls’ varsity 400-meter dash finals, finishing in 1 minute, 8.65 seconds.
