GILLETTE – The Pinedale Glaciers B” Division high school team captured second place at the Wyoming Amateur Hockey Associations (WAHA) 2024 State Tournament in Gillette following an epic cliffhanger game for the championship against Laramie that went into an overtime 5-man shootout with Laramie prevailing by a single point.

Two athletes on the Pinedale garnered All-State honors from the WAHA following the state tournament. Dace Rhea snagged All-State recognition as a forward with All-State honors for defense going to Tyler Currah.

The action at the tournament opened with Pinedale defeating Riverton, 7-3, on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The Glaciers won the first period, 2-1. Hardty Huffman shot in both goals, the first assisted by Christian Sosa Sanchez and the second unassisted.

Pulling out all the stops in the second period, the Glacier offense netted three goals while a determined Pinedale defense completely shut out Riverton from scoring. Hardty Huffman scored the first goal, assisted by Tyler Currah. Sanchez tossed in the subsequent goal unassisted. Edwin Vega scored next off a play by Bridger Lamppa and Fabian Vega.

Both teams posted two points in the third period. Mason Currah netted the first goal unassisted with Rhea shooting in the second goal, assisted by Lamppa.

Tyson Ramirez played goalie and posted 12 saves.

On Feb. 24, Pinedale squared off against Cody in the semifinals with the Glaciers trouncing their opponent, 5-2.

The Glaciers scored one point to zero from Cody in the first period. Cayden Christensen shot the puck into the net, assisted by Bo Danze.

Each team scored two points in the second period. Rhea netted the first goal off a play by Christensen. Yates Garcilaso Huffman scored next, assisted by Christensen and Tyler Currah.

Pinedale outscored Cody, 2-0, in the final period. Rhea tossed in both goals with assists by Yates Garcilaso Huffman and Hardty Huffman.

Aringtyn Huffman served as goalie against Cody and tallied 22 saves.

Advancing to the championship game on Sunday, Feb. 25, the Glaciers hit the ice against Laramie in a neck-and-neck battle that came down to the wire.

Pinedale won the first period, 1-0. Hardty Huffman scored Pinedales lone goal, assisted by Rhea and Tyler Currah.

Laramie turned the tables in the second period, netting two goals to one by Pinedale. Rhea scored for the Glaciers off a play by Yates Garcilaso Huffman.

Both teams scored a single point in the third period. Tyler Currah posted the goal for Pinedale, assisted by Hardty Huffman.

Regulation ended with a 3-3 deadlock, and the game went into a 5-man overtime shootout that Laramie won by a single point to prevail in the championship game.

Aringtyn Huffman played goalie against Laramie and tallied 52 saves.
