Angela Faustina Thompson, 88, of Lincoln City, Ore., passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2023, in Corvallis, Ore., surrounded by her children. Angela was born in Pinedale on March 2, 1935, to Curtis Cochrane and Flora Angeline Feltner, née Hennick.
After attending school in Pinedale and graduating from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., Angela dedicated her life’s work to teaching and the library sciences; over the course of her career, her work impacted the lives of thousands of students. Upon retirement, she moved to Lincoln City, Ore., where she continued her passion for education through service work at the
Fraternal Order of Eagles. There, she served in many chairs, including that of Madame President. Among countless other projects, Angela worked tirelessly to raise funds to support The Lincoln City Homeless Education & Literacy Project and to create scholarships for local high school students. Her many friends at the Eagles remember her as an irreplaceable force who worked tirelessly behind the scenes for her community, and in November 2023, she was conferred with the prestigious Oregon State Service Award: Eagle of the Year.
Her charitable work brought her much joy, and although there are many things we will remember about her — her mastery of bridge, domination of family cribbage tournaments, and love of college football; her impossibly beautiful dahlias and knowledge of every Wyoming wildflower; her stack of 1940s Campfire Girl membership cards, carefully preserved without a crease; her wit, love of words, sense of humor, and sense of adventure — we will remember most that she taught us how to give.
Angela is preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Feltner, and sisters, Elma Beattie and Sally Storey.
She is survived by her brother, Kurt (Cub) Feltner, and her sister, Juana Gras Feltner; her children, Kathy Averett and husband Doug, Chuck Garrett and wife Pam, Julie Tandon and husband Tarun; as well as three grandchildren, Tyler Averett, Will and Ali Garrett; three great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held for Angela on March 23, at The Fraternal Order of Eagles in Lincoln City, Ore. A second celebration will be held this summer in Pinedale.
