Alberta ‘AlBe’ Korfanta McAndrews
April 20, 1938 — November 23, 2023

Alberta “AlBe” Korfanta McAndrews passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2023, at her home in Pinedale.

Alberta was the oldest daughter of Albert Sunny” and Frances Korfanta, born in Rock Springs, Wyo., and grew up in Pinedale. She attended Pinedale Elementary and High School and continued her education at Loretto Heights College, Denver, and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Growing up in Pinedale and with her parents operating the Pinedale Drug, Alberta spent many of her junior high and high school days working behind the soda fountain making malts, shakes, and scooping store-made ice cream.

Married to Edward D. Boone from Frankfort, Kentucky, she and Dan had one son, Danner. Dan passed away in 1974 when Danner was just a young boy and Alberta continued to raise Danner in Pinedale while she taught kindergarten and second grade at Pinedale Elementary School. She was a devoted mother and caregiver to Danner prior to his death in 2019.

She taught in Pinedale for 30 years and retired in 2002. Her students were from multiple generations of Pinedale residents, it was noted at her retirement that Alberta gave her heart and soul” to the children of Pinedale. She thoroughly enjoyed the educational environment and hosted many holiday parties for her teaching colleagues.

A faithful member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, she became a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, served as president of the PCCW, served on the Building Fund committee and many other parish committees and frequently contributed her specialty dishes to church functions. She was always willing to fill a needed void.

Following her retirement, Alberta joined a small group of women in Pinedale indulging in all things sewing and quilting, making table runners, wall hangings and numerous other projects.   She enjoyed learning and sharing with her sewing friends. Her home was a changing showcase of many of her works, she was always just because” giving her home a new/different look.

Alberta worked for Pinedale Properties which eventually led to her business of Pinedale Properties Caretaking Services.

She loved spending time in her yard, planting a variety of colorful flowers and shrubs. Being a long-time member of the Sage and Snow Garden Club, she helped plant many Main Street flower barrels and helped with the waterwise garden plot.

Alberta loved to cook and try out new recipes, her recipe books noted those that passed her standard. Family and friends will miss the wonderful times as she took on hosting many family holiday dinners with guests.

Being a bit adventurous, Alberta volunteered for alpine skiing events leading up to and during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Alberta is survived by three sisters, Fran Korfanta (Pinedale), Karen Korfanta (Heber, Utah) and Deanna Larkin (Portland, Oregon), nephews Kevin Larkin, Tim Larkin (Darla), Sean Larkin (Lindsay) and Michael Larkin (Ashley). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Dan), son Danner, and her faithful dog Tucker.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Catholic Church, with graveside services to follow and a luncheon at the OLP Holy Family Hall.
