Lewis Hap Gray

Lewis Hap Gray, 62, passed away on May 28, 2024. Born on May 11, 1962, in Austin, Texas, Hap moved to Pinedale, Wyo., in 2014 to be near his sister. He was known for his kind, sweet, gentle nature. Always ready to help you with a smile, Hap thought of others before himself. Everyone who met Hap enjoyed and loved him.
Hap attended Crockett High School, the University of Texas and the Texas Chefs Association. He graduated with the highest honors from ITT Technical Institute-Austin and the National Radio School Institute of Technology.
Hap had a diverse career path. He was the Assistant Owner of Gray Enterprises, a horticulture greenhouse business in Round Rock, Texas. In Austin, he was an apprentice chef and line cook at Louis B’s, the front-end manager and bartender at ChinaTown restaurant, general manager at his mother’s Intensive English Program, IELS Language School, the owner/operator of Hap’s Deli, and an information technical support specialist for various companies. In Pinedale, he was a chef at White Pine Ski Resort. He started Airport Pizza in Pinedale in the summer of 2023.
The proudest moment of Hap’s life was the birth of his son, Zachary Jacob. Hap enjoyed cooking, music, astronomy, computer technology and outdoor activities in his free time.
Hap is survived by his son, Zachary Jacob Gray, and his sister, Kim Andrews (Bret Andrews).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mady Oen Gray, and his father, Lewis Gordon Gray. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all those whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held to honor and remember Hap beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at 14 Flagstone Way in Pinedale. Everyone who knew Hap is invited to attend and celebrate a wonderful, special man.
