PINEDALE – These local artists don’t really HATE hearts; for this art show they just do not buy into the romantic, flowery visions many think of in February.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, Mystery Print Gallery hosted an artists’ reception for this month’s show curated by Mae Orm, whose white silk flowers bloomed from her old wedding dress, with a few red and black tints.
Others’ creations are striking for their simplicity and inspiration, from a scorched cardboard dream home by Trista Coble to gallery owner David Klarén’s ceramic chalices with dozens of tiny black “likes” and his 1994 morbid “Death and Dissolution.”
Artist Robert Martinez created a small poster titled “vengeance” of a chewing gum chieftain looking over his sunglasses. Boulder artist Charmian McLellan riffed on Salvador Dali’s swooning hearts, Robin Sruoginis left her fabric and created a small portrait with charms and chains. Other works on display are journal pages by Dan Abernathy, Matt Daly’s house of cards, Rita Mata’s “Thinking with My Heart,” Bronwyn Minton’s X and O of clay.
