Galloway Cheston Clover

Galloway Cheston Clover passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021, at his home in Alpine. He was 37 years old.

Cheston was born Jan. 16, 1984, to Galloway Morris Clover and Tanna Rogers-Clover in Salt Lake. He attended Wilson Elementary and then high school in Pinedale where he graduated in 2002.

Following his death is his father Galloway Clover, who passed just 19 days later on July 14, 2021. His fraternal grandparents, George and Elise Clover; maternal grandparents Leo and Carolyn Rogers; two cousins, Clara Elizabeth Clover and David Nicholas Clover.

Cheston is survived by his mother Tanna Rogers-Clover; sister Patience Jones; love of his life and best friend Madelyn Cobb; dog child Cricket; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and even more great friends.

From birth to Cheston’s final days, he was horseback. At the young age of 3 his lead rope was tied to his saddle horn and – away he went – following his mother and father into the mountains.

Paul Gilroy was an outfitter mentor to Cheston from the age of 12, patiently teaching him trades of the outfitting business. As Cheston got older, he took what he had learned packing and guiding hunters. This led to his own business, Wilderness Trails Outfitting. This business has been in the Clover family for three generations.

Outside of being an outfitter, Cheston grew into a young man as an excellent carpenter. This was truly a work of art for him. He had many other passions he was skilled at that included snowmachining, skiing/snowboarding and swing dancing just to name a few. He also loved supporting and watching Madelyn in her polo games.

Cheston was brilliant, kind, thoughtful, adventurous – sometimes crazy (chasing grizzly bears on horseback), and of course defiant at times. He was always eager to help and had a hard work ethic. At 6-foot-5 and thin as a rail, he had a noticeable presence in a room that was followed with a giant sense of humor, big smile and unforgettable laugh. The stories never end.

You are missed terribly. May your gentle soul rest high up on the mountains. We will think of you as the sun eases up to light our days.

Cheston’s memorial will be held Oct. 2 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 170 Glenwood St., Jackson, Wyo., at 2 p.m. Reception and celebration to follow in Hanson Hall of the Church.

In lieu of flowers there is a donation account for the Benefit of Cheston Clover at The Bank of Jackson Hole.
