Team shift affects Lady Wranglers

PINEDALE – The Pinedale High School varsity girls soccer program suffered its fourth consecutive loss of the season last Friday as it hosted a tough Rawlins bunch on its home turf in Pinedale.

According to head coach Jennifer Adam, the team was down a pair of starters, which changed the dynamic out on the field early in the contest.

“Missing two starters should not have effected us much, but the team dynamic changed,” Adam said. “It took us a while to adjust.”

While Pinedale was adjusting to a different team atmosphere on the field, Rawlins took advantage by scoring two goals during the first half. Once the second half got underway, a much different Pinedale program showed up and started playing stronger, smarter soccer.

“We really woke up in the second half,” Adam noted. “We had just as many shots (as Rawlins), but could not get any to find the net.”

Pinedale finished with a team total of seven shots on the goal, with seniors McKenna Legerski and Heidi Nutt both finishing with two each to lead the Lady Wranglers. Despite the effort to score, Rawlins was able to pull away with a 2-0 victory.

The Outlaws put up nine shots on the goal, and Pinedale freshman goalkeeper Rosie Douglas was able to pick up seven saves in total for a save percentage of .777.

Even though the Lady Wranglers dropped the loss, Adam was pleased to see her team put in a strong effort to finish out the game.

“We had great attacks and played super hard at the end but it wasn’t enough,” she said.

Following the matchup, senior Lynora Anderson was named player of the game, as she played three different positions equally well, the coach said.

On the junior varsity side, Adam said half the team was away on spring break for the Rawlins game. With so many athletes out, four varsity players stepped up to fill roles as the team earned a 2-0 victory.

Sophomore Destiny Redwine was named as player of the game, and Adam said she continues to play with heart and improve every game through giving her all out on the turf.

The Lady Wranglers venture to Green River today through Saturday, April 8, for the Southwest Invitational. The team first takes on 4A Green River at noon today, and will move on to play either Rawlins or Star Valley later in the afternoon, depending on who wins and loses each game.
