The Sage and Snow Garden Club is capping off the gardening season by giving its final Garden of Beauty Award to Marlene Bauman and Bridger Johnston at 232 N. Franklin St. in Pinedale. Their spectacular display of color is hard to match. Marlene is a very adventurous gardener. Each spring she plants new varieties of flowers and coaxes them into surviving our unpredictable growing season. She loves potting up annual flowers, such as the “starry bright purple petunias,” and displaying them around the yard for enduring color all summer. Her collection of perennial flowers (that return every spring) is extensive and includes several local favorites, such as snow-in-summer, catmint, sedum, and Oriental poppies, but also includes some hard-to-grow species, such as coral bells, creeping Jenny, and hostas. Their plants are accented with water features and a pretty display of flag-themed Americana.
