PINEDALE – A team of talented young superheroes opened the Pinedale Fine Arts Council’s (PFAC) final Soundcheck Summer Music Series concert on Aug. 11 with the premier of several originally choreographed dance pieces and paintings.

When they are not busy showcasing their dancing and artistic powers, these superheroes return to their alter-egos as local elementary-aged participants in PFAC’s Dancers’ Workshop Visual/Arts Camp.

Three instructors from Jackson’s Dancers’ Workshop spent a week in Pinedale immersing 13 campers in a world of dance, visual arts and creative writing centered on the theme of superheroes. At the end of the week, campers highlighted original art and choreography they produced in a performance to kick off the last Soundcheck Series concert of the summer.

“I really love this last aspect as it showcases our camp programming in a concert-like setting and offers a whole new dimension to the Soundcheck Series,” said Tim Ruland, PFAC executive director.

PFAC began hosting summer arts camps more than a decade ago, and in addition to the Dancers’ Workshop program, PFAC organized a weeklong STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) camp this month.

Dancers’ Workshop provides the instructors, lesson plans and direction for the final show while PFAC secures funding for the camp, said Ruland. Major donors include the Wyoming Arts Council, the Wyoming Community Foundation, the Sublette County Recreation Board and an anonymous contributor in addition to season contributions from community members, Ruland added.

PFAC also collaborates with Dancers’ Workshop during the school year to present week-long classes at Pinedale and Big Piney elementary schools.

“Dancers’ Workshop is one of our most popular offerings and something we look forward to every summer,” said Ruland.
