Pummelers have great showing at state

CASPER – The Pinedale Pummelers Wrestling Club just finished the 2017 wrestling season at the State Finals in Casper last weekend.

The club has continued to grow in success every year and this year was no different. This year, the Pinedale Pummelers had wrestlers compete in all three syles – folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman – over the course of three days.

The Pummelers Wrestling Club placed more wrestlers on the podium than it ever has in a single season. Between the three styles, the Pummelers came away with 10 state champions and placed 29 wrestlers on the podium.

In freestyle, the Pinedale Pummelers had 16 wrestlers competing, placing sixth out of 40 teams, with three state champions and 11 podium finishes. In freestyle, state champions included Keegan Gehlhausen, Cody Phelps and Tristan Haley. Earning second places were Colton Gehlhausen, Garrett Haley and Wylee Willson. Taking third place were Kaleb Bigelow and Grant Fornstrom. Ryan Nutt took fourth place, and Wyatt Madole and Garrett Madole both earned fifth-place finishes.

In folkstyle, the Pinedale Pummelers had 18 wrestlers competing, placing seventh out of 43 teams, with five state champions and 11 podium finishes. State champs included Keegan Gehlhausen, Cody Phelps, Tristan Haley, Wylee Willson and Garrett Madole. Earning second-place finishes were Colton Gehlhausen and Grant Fornstrom. Ryan Nutt wrestled to a third-place finish, and Wyatt Madole, Kaleb Bigelow and Garrett Haley all grabbed fifth-place finishes.

In Greco-Roman, the Pinedale Pummelers had eight wrestlers competing, with two state champions and seven podium finishes. In Greco-Roman, Tristan Haley and Cody Phelps earned state championships to take the top spot in all three disciplines. Meanwhile, Keegan Gehlhausen, Colton Gehlhausen and Garrett Haley grabbed second place in their divisions in Greco-Roman. Dustin Larsen earned a fifth-place finish and Ryker Marshall came in sixth.

We want to thank all the wrestlers that were involved with the club this year. The success of the club at the state finals this year was not only attributed to the wrestlers that placed on the podium, but to all the wrestlers that worked hard, trained hard and pushed one another in the practice room over the past six months, whether they traveled to Casper this past weekend or not.

The Pinedale Pummelers want to thank the Pinedale schools for the use of the facilities and the support of the club. The success of this club has largely relied on the participation of the parents and people in the community, and we feel this success will continue to grow.
