Lady Wranglers wrap regular season with sweep

WYOMING – Jackson slammed the ball over the net in the fourth set against Pinedale on Thursday, Oct. 21, threatening to tie the match.

Pinedale’s junior libero Sara Kunard dug deep, keeping the ball in play. Senior Darby Clause sprinted to the back line and bumped the ball to senior Roxanne Rogers, who sent it over the net, breaking the stalemate.

The Lady Broncs inched back into the lead. Sophomore Reagan Davis set the ball for senior McKenzie Illoway to deliver a kill.

Junior Mikayla Drake aced the next point and senior Abigail Hawke shot over two hits.

Jackson served the ball out of bounds and Pinedale scored match point for a 3-1 victory over its 4A rival.

The Lady Wranglers’ ability to close out a heater set carried over to Pinedale’s final conference match against Kemmerer.

The Lady Wranglers defeated Kemmerer, 3-1, cementing Pinedale’s position as the No. 3 seed at the Regional Tournament hosted by Lyman this weekend.

Pinedale plays Worland in the first round on Friday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m.

Jackson

The lead bounced back and forth in the first set against the Lady Broncs.

Jackson struck first with a three-point run. Pinedale answered with hits by Roxanne Rogers and defensive network by senior Maggie Harber and junior Haylen Sandner.

A kill by Illoway and an ace by Sandner tied the set at point 8.

Jackson regained the lead. Senior Darby Clause served up an ace to pull Pinedale ahead by a point.

Jackson leveled again, though kills by Sandner and Harber tied the set once more at point 17.

Roxanne Rogers aced a serve and Illoway slammed over a hit, assisted by Davis. Hawke played a block for point 20.

Jackson snuck up a final time in the set to tie the match at point 20. Roxanne Rogers answered with a hit. Clause bumped over point 23 and Sandner scored point 24. Jackson hit the net returning a serve by freshman Gabrielle Rogers for set point, 25-23.

Jackson hit the court swinging in the second set, establishing an early lead.

Pinedale nearly caught up several times, with points scored by Clause, Sandner, Roxanne Rogers, Hawke and Illoway. Kunard provided defensive coverage and Davis assisted on many hits. Roxanne Rogers fired of a pair of aces before Jackson pushed ahead to win the set, 25-21.

The Lady Wranglers rallied in the third set. Junior Toree Andersen served up two points and delivered point 4 with a dig.

Davis tapped over point 7, assisted by a dig from Kunard. Hawke and Roxanne Rogers widened Pinedale’s lead with hits.

Jackson failed to return two serves by Kunard. Roxanne Rogers wound up a kill for point 18. Illoway hit over point 21, followed by a pair of kills by Hawke. Davis set over point 24 and a kill by Hawke led to set point, 25-18.

The Lady Broncs put up a stronger resistance in the fourth set. Gabrielle Rogers served an ace followed by hits from Sandner, assisted by Davis and Illoway. Hawke and Harber blocked the ball, tying the set at point 9. Jackson edged ahead, but a kill from Hawke and an ace by Andersen placed Pinedale back in the lead.

Jackson snuck up from behind to tie the set three more times before Pinedale regained the initiative and scored set point, 25-22.

Kemmerer

The Lady Rangers overtook Pinedale early in the first set. Hawke played a block to tie the match at point 7. Hits by Roxanne Rogers led to a stalemate at points 9 and 11. Illoway scored a hit, moving Pinedale ahead by one point.

Andersen aced point 15, tying the match once again. Hawke delivered a kill for point 17 and Roxanne Rogers hit over point 18. Sandner fired off a kill for point 20 before Kemmerer scored set point, 25-21.

Determined to retake the initiative, the Lady Wranglers hit the floor running in the second set. Hawke and Roxanne Rogers fired off early kills. Davis set point 4 and Kunard bumped over point 7.

Roxanne Rogers scored a pair of aces. Illoway followed up with a hit and Sandner aced point 12.

Hawke shot over a kill for point 13, assisted by Davis. Anderson scored next, also assisted by Davis.

Illoway powered over a kill for point 15. Harber scored a hit at point 20 and Gabrielle Rogers aced point 21. Roxanne Rogers slammed away three kills. Pinedale scored set point, 25-19, when Jackson found itself tangled in the net returning Roxanne Rogers’ serve.

Clause set the tone in the fourth set with an ace right out of the gates. Hits by Roxanne Rogers and Harber kept Pinedale ahead. Roxanne Rogers aced point 6 and Sandner spiked a kill for point 9.

Sandner scored a pair of aces, followed by two blocks and two kills by Hawke. Roxanne Rogers scored points on the next four rallies. Jackson managed to get in a point despite nice saves by Kunard and Clause.

Sandner fired off a kill for point 24. Pinedale scored set point when the Rangers sent the next serve out of bounds.
