Filling their bag with plenty of top-three medals at the Lyman Duel, athletes on the swim team also continued to chip away at their times in individual events and relays over the weekend.

Regardless of the final tally, the Wrangler offense gained significant yards in several drives, culminating in a touchdown in the fourth quarter. A determined Wrangler defense shut down Cokeville in the first quarter and kept the pressure on throughout the subsequent three quarters.

Harriers competed in Idaho again and in the Old Bill's Fun Run in Jackson last weekend.

The Sublette County combined girls' swim team continues to build momentum as the season progresses.

“I was very proud of the kids this weekend,” said Head Coach Jeromy Moffat. “Defensively, we shut them out and offensively we scored a lot of points and executed our game plan on the ground and in the air.”

“It was a tough loss for the Wranglers last Friday,” said Head Coach David Thrash. “There were some highlights to come out of the contest, however, showing that the team is still headed in the correct direction. The defense stood tall against a well-executed Eagle offense in holding them to one score in the first quarter and only 14 points in the first half. The linebacker core filled and read well to help contain Lyman’s run game. Offensively, the Wranglers were moving the ball in the first half and broke plays for good positive gains.”

Friday consisted of three pool play games against 3A competitors from across the state. Defeating both Lovell and Torrington and tying with Buffalo, the Lady Wranglers captured first place in the gold pool.

Friday featured pool play, with the Lady Punchers displaying their grit through a busy day consisting of a full lineup of four games.

Rewriting history, the varsity boys posted the best golf team score by PHS in the annals of the program.

“I was very pleased with how they played on offense and defense,” he said. “Offensively, we put up a lot of points in the first half and had a balanced attack of running and passing. I think it was one of the best blocking performances with our big guys up front. Defensively, Lusk threw the ball more than we had prepared for. We will practice more for the pass this week and patch up those holes on defense.”

“The Border Wars are always a fun tournament with lots of volleyball,” said Head Coach Tamara Currah. “The girls played great on Friday with varsity winning two games. The team lost two games, but played very competitively against some really good teams. On Saturday, we were down four girls who were injured. Although we missed them greatly, the girls stepped up and played tough. The games were neck-and-neck and competitive.”

The non-conference preseason heated up for the Big Piney Lady Punchers’ volleyball team with an away game against 1A Farson on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Pinedale Invitational wrapped up the regular season for the golf team, with the 3A West Conference Golf Tournament taking place in Green River on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9.

Antonino beat 170 other athletes in the girls’ varsity division to capture sixth place overall with a time of 19 minutes, 50.55 seconds, shaving 1 minute from her time at the previous year’s event. Koci competed in the girls’ junior varsity division, snapping up 61st place out of 272 runners with a time of 25:07.31. Koci also made significant improvements from last year, dropping 1:30 from her Cardinal Classic time in 2022.

Pinedale’s successful opening drive, combined with a relentless Wrangler defense, resulted in a decisive 6-0 victory for Pinedale. While not a conference game, Pinedale’s triumph against Rawlins ended a two-year draught for the team and created plenty of positive momentum for the Wranglers.

Nine teams competed at the meet, including several programs from much larger schools like Cheyenne East, Evanston, Natrona County High School, Rock Springs and the meet hosts.

The pentathlon required each athlete to complete five events – the 100-butterfly, 100-backstroke, 50-freestyle, 100-breaststroke and 100-freestyle. The combined times from all five events determined a swimmer’s overall placing.

The Pinedale High School golf team teed off against its rivals from across the region in the shadow of the majestic Teton Mountain Range on the first day at Teton Pines Golf Course. Teams then traveled to Cedar Creek Golf Course in Star Valley Ranch for more action on day two.

Pinedale High School juniors Madison Antonino and Cora Koci commenced their cross-country season with the Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) team at the Night at the Races 5-kilometer event in Idaho Falls on Friday, Aug. 25.

On Friday, Pinedale rallied from a tough 3-0 defeat against non-conference rival 4A Cody to score a decisive 3-1 win against 3A Powell, a team the Lady Wranglers will likely see again in the postseason.
