Wranglers second, Lady Wranglers fifth at home Alpine Ski meet

Wranglers second, Lady Wranglers fifth at home Alpine Ski meet

JACKSON – While the annual Pinedale Alpine Ski Invitational actually took place at Snow King Resort in Jackson this year, both the Wranglers and Lady Wranglers shredded the slopes at the homemeet on Feb. 23-24.

The Wranglers took second overall following two giant slalom races on Friday and both slalom runs on Saturday, posting 91 team points. The Pinedale boys beat Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, Cody and Laramie, with only Jackson scoring more points to take first place.

The Lady Wranglers finished the two-day event in fifth place with 31 team points.

The Pinedale Invitational boosted the alpine ski teams confidence as the regular season ends. The Lady Wranglers and Wranglers board the bus for the 2024 State Alpine Skiing Championships at Snow King on March 1 and 2.

Pinedale has solid momentum going into our state competition,” head coach Dylan Bear said. We have multiple athletes sitting in the top 12 currently, and those top 12 boys and girls get invited to the regional competition at Mammoth this year.”

Athletes contending for a berth at regionals include sophomore Ellie Tolson, junior James Tolson, junior Destin Williams and senior Joe Boylan.

Coach Bear thanked the Pinedale community and alpine ski families for their support at the home meet.

We look forward to wrapping up the season with a positive state event,” Bear added.

James Tolson led the Pinedale boysvarsity pack in the giant slalom races on Friday, clinching fifth place with a time of 1 minute, 38.53 seconds after completing both runs.

Williams took ninth place in giant slalom with an overall time of 1:41.60. Boylan came in 10th place at 1:43.96, with sophomore Garrett Saunders in 11th place at 1:44.42 and fellow sophomore Dune Mecartney in 14th at 1:46.18.

In girlsgiant slalom, junior Nora Broadhead broke into the top 10 with a ninth-place finish, clocking both runs in at 1:50.72. Ellie Tolson secured 11th place with a time of 1:52.11.

Senior Ana Mika snagged 18th place at 1:56.01, with fellow senior Kemmer Clause in 22nd place at 1:58.97 and freshman Charlie Irrgang in 25th at 2:04.37.

On Saturday, three boys made the top 10 on the slalom course. James Tolson set the pace, finishing seventh with an overall time of 2:04.45. Senior Tristan Roberts took eighth place at 2:04.85 with Boylan capturing ninth place at 2:06.12.

Williams picked up 12th place at 2:14.92 while Mecartney came in 14th place at 2:17.05.

In girlsslalom, Clause scooped up 13th place, clocking both runs in at 2:25.04. Freshman Roxanne Melinkovich placed 15th at 2:26.43, with Broadhead in 17th at 2:28.28 and Mika in 22nd at 2:37.20.
