PINEDALE – The Pinedale High School Lady Wrangler girls’ soccer team demonstrated its endurance with three games over the course of three days.

The action opened with an away game against Lander on Thursday, May 4, won by the Lady Tigers, 6-0.

On Friday, May 5, Pinedale hosted Green River. A solid Lady Wrangler defense held Green River to only two goals in the first half. Green River scored 4 points in the second half, though not before Pinedale fired off a goal in the final 2 minutes of the game. The scoreboard ultimately favored Green River, 6-1.

Returning to the pitch on Saturday morning, Pinedale squared off against Powell, the No. 2-ranked team in the 3A West Conference. Even though Powell won, 5-0, the Lady Wranglers battled to the final second, especially during a determined and physical second half.

“I am very proud of the growth we have seen with the team,” said Head Coach Shanda Jensen. “They had a triple header this last weekend and never let up. Our starting goalie got a wrist injury during the Lander game and (freshman) Erin Murphy did amazing.”

Green River

Green River scored early in the first half, prompting Pinedale to tighten its defense. Defensive hustle by sophomores Avery Hughes and Cora Koci sent the ball back into Green River territory. Murphy made multiple saves.

Junior Anna Lehr prevented a shot on goal and sophomore Victoria Ramage cleared the ball.

Murphy shut down an attempt by Green River to score with a penalty kick early in the second half. Senior Miros Gutierrez and freshman Mia Lehr both cleared the ball.

On offense, senior Addison Bing and Anna Lehr both made shots on goal.

With 2 minutes remaining on the clock, Gutierrez launched a corner kick toward Green River’s goal. Senior Madison Zook made contact with the ball, sending it past Green River’s goalie to score a point for Pinedale.

Powell

A tenacious effort by the Lady Wrangler defense held No. 2-ranked Powell to only two goals in the first half. Murphy opened the half with a pair of back-to-back saves. Anna Lehr cleared the ball and Murphy grabbed a third save.

Gutierrez maneuvered the ball into Powell territory for a shot on goal. Defensive footwork by Zook kept the ball away from Pinedale’s goal area. Bing and Mia Lehr both delivered powerful shots on goal. Murphy tallied three more saves in the first half.

Powell scored 3 points in the second half. Murphy made at least three saves and Anna Lehr cleared the ball twice.

The regular season winds down for the Lady Wranglers this weekend. Pinedale travels to play Lyman on Friday, May 12. The Lady Wranglers host Mountain View for Senior Recognition Day on Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m.
