PINEDALE – The 2023 high-school golf season wrapped up in September with the announcement of postseason awards.

Pinedale High School fared especially well with three golfers placing in the top 10 and snagging All-Conference honors at the 3A West Conference Championships in Green River on Sept. 8-9.

Senior Brody Hamby garnered third place in varsity boys at the Conference Championships with a two-day score of 148. He advanced on the leaderboard from 75 on the first day to 73 on the second to earn All-Conference recognition.

Freshman Braxton Costello secured All-Conference accolades for a fourth-place finish in varsity boys at Green River. He shot 75 on the first day and 74 in the second round to post a cumulative score of 149.

Junior Elyn Bowers stepped up to represent the Lady Wranglers in girls’ varsity, capturing All-Conference honors with a seventh-place finish and a combined score of 186. Bowers improved from 96 in the first round to post 90 in the second.

Hamby and Costello also earned All-State honors for their performances at the 3A State Tournament in Worland, with Hamby placing fifth and Costello sixth. The golf All-State story will be printed in a later edition of the Roundup.

Hamby commenced the golf season by breaking into the top 10 at the Star Valley Invitational on Aug. 9-10, bagging fifth place. The senior picked up sixth place at the home invitational on Sept. 1.

“Brody had a great senior season,” said Head Coach Luke Myszewski. “He put in a lot of hard work over the years, but has always had a natural talent around the greens. Brody was a great senior leader for the varsity team and often led by example. The level of seriousness and focus he has the hour before tee-off is impressive.”

Bowers began her season with a sixth-place finish at the Star Valley Invitational. The junior went on to take sixth place at Evanston on Aug. 17-18 and ninth at the Snake River Shootout in Jackson and Star Valley on Aug. 23-24.

Representing the Lady Wranglers at the home meet on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, Bowers achieved second place.

“Elyn is talented at everything she does,” said Coach Myszewski. “Her athletic ability alone is a huge asset that puts her on a level above a majority of her peers. She holds her competitors accountable and at every tournament she plays in, she has a goal. She knows what to work on in practice and holds herself to a very high standard.”

Costello earned his first top-10 finish at Evanston, obtaining seventh place. The freshman came in 10th at the Snake River Shootout on Aug. 23-24.

Costello won the varsity boys’ division at the Pinedale Invitational on Sept. 1 with a two-day score of 150.

“Braxton works hard on getting the details right and has an incredibly competitive spirit,” added Coach Myszewski. “He makes every second of practice count and it pays off when he competes on the golf course. That competitiveness spilled over to the rest of the team and he would help any team member whenever he could.”
