Sometimes, rescue stories cross more than county lines — they cross borders, cultures, and chances. Recently, Happy Endings Animal Rescue (HEAR) welcomed three 7-month-old heeler brothers who were on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded South Dakota shelter. Their journey to safety brought them to Pinedale, where they now have a real chance at finding the love and family they deserve.
Each pup bears a Dakota Sioux name that reflects his spirit and new beginning:
• Wiaka means feather — light, free, and always moving with the wind.
• Takota means friend to everyone — a perfect name for a pup already eager to meet every volunteer.
All three are neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and ready to find loving forever homes. True to their heeler nature, they are smart, loyal, and full of energy — the kind of dogs who would love outdoor adventures, car rides, and families of their own.
We’re thrilled to share that Wapi found his forever home following Sunday’s adoption day, a happy reminder of how quickly love can find its match.
Their rescue is also a reminder of how fortunate we are to have a network of dedicated fosters, volunteers, and donors who step up in times of need. HEAR could not do this work without them. Every animal saved is a community effort; a combination of open homes, open hearts, and generous support.
As we celebrate Wiaka, Takota, and Wapi’s new beginnings, we’re also looking for more people willing to open their homes to animals in need. Fostering saves lives, and there’s no greater reward than seeing a scared pup transform into a confident, happy companion.
If you’d like to meet Wiaka or Takota — or learn more about fostering — please contact Happy Endings Animal Rescue at 307-360-6000 or visit our website to complete a foster application: https://happyendingsanimalrescue.org. All of HEAR’s adoptable animals can be found at petfinder.com.
Because every animal deserves a forever home — and every family deserves a loyal, loving companion in return.
