JACKSON – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team faced tough competition at the annual Adam Denton Memorial Invitational hosted by Jackson on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17.
Rival teams included Laramie, the defending 4A State Champion, and Lander, the 2021 3A State titleholder. Two 4A teams also traveled to the meet from Gillette, representing Campbell County and Thunder Basin high schools.
Unfazed, Sublette County’s young squad dove right into the fray, posting strong performances in individual events and relays at Jackson. A majority of the team finished in the top 18 during Friday’s preliminary rounds to advance to the finals on Saturday.

Co-Head Coach Kursty Day also praised Sublette County swimmers for rising to the challenge against significantly larger opponents.
“Our young athletes showed great effort in all their events,” she added.
Results
Sublette County snagged fifth place in the 200-medley relay finals. Junior Addy Levitt, freshman Evalyn Smith, sophomore KaLee Bohnet and freshman Aurora Rees clocked in at 2 minutes, 42.74 seconds.
An all-freshman team, consisting of Clairee Bingham, Libby Olson, Kamia Runyan and Mariaha Morgan, earned sixth place in the 200-freestyle relay finals at 2:24.60.
Sophomore Emma York, freshman Catie Langlois, sophomore Chelsea Wright and freshman Bryn Arne came in sixth place in the 400-freestyle relay finals, posting a time of 5:36.36.
Senior Rhonda Auradou represented Sublette County in diving, placing 11th in the finals on Saturday with 263.10 points.
In the 200-freestyle finals, senior Morgan Grossman bagged 11th place at 2:24.99. Sophomore Alexis Thompson finished next, placing 17th at 2:48.69 with Rees in 18th place at 3:03.83.
Completing the 200-individual medley finals in 2:43.27, senior Rayne Wheeler picked up 12th place. Sophomore Jolynn Jones followed in 16th place at 3:00.40 while freshman Shelby Scott finished shortly after in 17th place at 3:03.00.
Levitt placed 19th in the 200-individual medley preliminaries with a time of 3:09.22.
York snagged 15th place in the 50-freestyle finals, timing in at 32.09 seconds.
In the 50-freestyle preliminaries, Bingham placed 20th at 34.81 seconds, freshman Alyce Hayward 24th at 35.63, Runyan 26th at 35.77, Wright 28th at 36.30, Langlois 32nd at 40.27, Morgan 33rd at 40.80 and Smith in 38th at 49.90.
Posting 1:22.83 in the 100-butterfly finals, Jones scooped up 11th place. Bohnet placed 13th in the same event at 1:30.01.
Olson finished 16th in the 100-freestyle finals with Bingham hitting the finish line only three-tenths of a second later in 17th place at 1:19.95. Langlois placed 20th in the 100-freestyle preliminaries at 1:31.33 with Morgan in 21st place at 1:35.29.
Four Sublette County athletes made the finals in the 500 freestyle. Grossman led the pack with a ninth-place finish, clocking in at 6:28.13. Thompson took 13th place at 7:09.56 with York in 14th at 7:14.73 and Wright finishing 18th at 8:33.20.
Wheeler pulled into 12th place in the 100-backstroke finals, clocking in at 1:17.60. Scott earned 17th place in the event at 1:24.73 with Levitt in 18th at 1:27.83.
In the 100-backstroke preliminaries, Bohnet placed 20th at 1:34.16, Rees 22nd at 1:38.21 and Hayward in 23rd at 1:40.02.
Rounding out individual events, Runyan finished 17th in the 100-breaststroke finals at 1:45.62. Smith came in 18th place at 1:56.03. Freshman Hadlee Francis came in 19th place in the 100-breaststroke preliminaries at 1:58.48.
The Sublette County swim team squares off against Kemmerer and Lyman at the Big Piney High School pool on Friday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m.
