GREEN RIVER – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team dove into the postseason at the 3A West Conference Meet in Green River on Oct. 20-21.
Athletes from across the county continued to post new personal records and medaled in the finals at Conference, with several swimmers getting ever closer to State-qualifying times. The first day of competition in Green River featured preliminaries with the top 12 in individual events and top seven relay teams advancing to finals on Saturday.
Co-Head Coach Kursty Day highlighted sophomore Kamia Runyan, junior KaLee Bohnet, junior Alexis Thompson, sophomore Aurora Rees and freshman Chelsea Davis for finishing individual events at Conference with “huge time drops.”
Junior Jolynn Jones broke into the top 12 in the 200-freestyle to place sixth in the finals for the event on Saturday, posting a time of 2 minutes, 19.20 seconds. Jones also placed 10th in the finals for the 100-butterfly, timing in at 1:13.98.
Fellow junior Emma York snapped up eighth place in the 100-freestyle finals, hitting the finish line in 1:02.57. Timing the 200-freestyle finals in at 2:21.74, York placed ninth in the event.
Thompson secured 10th place in the 500-freestyle finals, finishing the long-distance event with a time of 6:47.10.
Rees earned 12th place in the 500-freestyle finals with a time of 7:26.26.
Bohnet picked up 12th place in the 100-butterfly finals, clocking in at 1:19.50.
Sophomore Shelby Scott took 12th place in the finals for the 100-yard backstroke, reaching the finish line in 1:15.50.
In relay finals, junior Maggie Walker, senior Addysen Levitt, Jones and York snagged sixth place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:15.41.
Thompson, freshman Eva Scherbel, junior Matazi Landers and Walker broke into the finals for the 200-freestyle relay and placed seventh at 1:58.26.
Posting a time of 4:19.62 in the 400-freestyle relay, Thompson, Levitt, Jones and York placed fifth in the event.
The swim team hosts the Last Chance Meet in Pinedale on Thursday, Oct. 26, providing one more opportunity for athletes to qualify for State. The meet takes place at the Pinedale Aquatic Center at 4 p.m.
Gillette hosts the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships on Nov. 3-4.
