Swim team doubles State qualifiers at Last Chance

PINEDALE – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team doubled the number of athletes punching their tickets to the 2023 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Gillette at the Last Chance Meet in Pinedale on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Sophomore Shelby Scott qualified for State in the 100-backstroke, capturing gold in the event on Thursday with a new personal record of 1 minute, 12.73 seconds.

Junior Alexis Thompson joined the State roster when she qualified in the 200-freestyle, snapping up second place in the event and timing in at 2:23.71. Thompson also finished first in the long-distance 500-freestyle, posting a time of 6:45.60.

Timing the 50-freestyle in at 28.14 seconds, junior Emma York qualified in the event while snagging first place. York went on to win the 100-butterfly and qualify in that event, clocking in at 1:13.74.

York previously qualified in the 100-freestyle and 200-freestyle earlier in the season.

Junior Jolynn Jones rounds out the squad headed for State this weekend. She qualified in three events – the 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle and 100-butterfly – over the course of the season.

Last Chance Meet highlights

Sophomore Libby Olson won the 100-freestyle, hitting the finish line in 1:04.96.

In the 100-breaststroke, senior Addysen Levitt garnered second place, posting a time of 1:24.56. Fellow senior Brooke Noble earned third place in the event with a time of 1:28.18.

Clocking the 100-butterfly in at 1:18.02, junior KaLee Bohnet captured second place in the event. Sophomore Alyce Hayward picked up third place in the 100-butterfly, finishing the event in 1:45.94.

Junior Maggie Walker garnered second place in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:18.70. Walker also secured third place in the 50-freestyle at 28.56 seconds.

Reaching the finish line for the 100-backstroke in 1:19.77, junior Matazi Landers achieved third place in the event.

Sophomore Aurora Rees came in third place in the 200-freestyle, clocking in at 2:38.58.

In the 100-freestyle, freshman Eva Scherbel took third place with a time of 1:08.01.

Relay highlights included a second-place finish for Scott, sophomore Evalyn Smith, Hayward and Rees in the 200-medley relay at 2:18.83. Walker, Landers, Bohnet and sophomore Bryn Arne placed third in the event at 2:25.32.
