Sublette BOCES hosts kids' Camp Invention

Posted

PINEDALE – Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment program, is coming to Sublette BOCES in Pinedale the week of July 17-21.

Camp Invention is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The camp challenges children in grades K-6 to tap into their natural curiosity and use their creativity to solve problems.

Through hands-on activities, Camp Invention promotes STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning, builds confidence, leadership, perseverance, resourcefulness and entrepreneurship all in a fun and engaging environment.

Each year, the program features a new curriculum inspired by the National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees. This year’s program encourages children to be confident in their ideas and explore their innovativeness through several hands-on activities including:

  • Catching Air – Young people take a confidence-building ride through physics, engineering and art and design and build their own skate park.
  • Invent celebration – Campers take on the role of event planners as they throw a party celebrating creativity and innovation.
  • MimicBot – Children show their unique style when they transform a robot that mimics sounds into a one-of-a-kind animatronic stuffie.
  • Pop-Up Venture – Big ideas come to life as campers design their own mini pop-up business.

All local Camp Invention programs are facilitated and taught by qualified educators who reside and teach in the community. The Sublette BOCES Camp Invention will be taught by Heather Kamp, science and enrichment teacher at Pinedale Elementary School, and will be administered by BOCES’ Morgan Cook.

Tuition for the camp is $260. Financial assistance is available for campers by contacting Sublette BOCES Director Robin Schamber at 307-367-6873.

Camp Invention will be held at the BOCES facility in Pinedale at 665 N. Tyler Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., July 17-21.
