PINEDALE – The Pinedale Spanish Club’s dinner and auction fundraiser
brought about 200 diners out on Friday night to sample and enjoy
about 30 Hispanic entrees, salsas and desserts. Crockpots, bowls and cake
pans covered tables set around the Pinedale Elementary School cafeteria.
Offerings included everything from seafood paella to creamy flan custard,
simple tacos and cinnamon-sugared churros, chicken enchiladas and other
aromatic casseroles.
There were flavors from Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Chile
and other Spanish-speaking countries, prepared and donated by the local
community and parents of students traveling to Spain, France and England
next summer.
Pinedale Spanish Club advisor Kendall Horrocks called the dinner and
silent and live auctions “a great success” by raising more than $4,000 to
help the students defray trip costs. The trip abroad will cost each student
$4,100 so the Spanish Club is holding several fundraisers.
Twenty students have signed up for the trip – “Those who show up
and help with the fundraisers are the ones that get the fundraising money,”
Horrocks explained.
The Pinedale Spanish Club gives students chances to have authentic
experiences with the Spanish language and culture, including educational
excursions to Spanish-speaking countries for the past several years.
