Sexual battery trial to begin Nov. 7

SUBLETTE COUNTY – A man who pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery of a sleeping woman camped by Fremont Lake during last year’s Sailing Regatta goes to trial on Nov. 7.

Gavin A. Respini, of Las Vegas, Nevada, is charged with allegedly fondling and sexually touching the woman, a Pinedale resident who spoke to deputies and traveled to St. John’s Medical Center for a DNA test. The incident occurred late at night on Aug. 13, 2022. The woman said she screamed, the man later identified as Respini left and her friends followed him, records show.

Three days are set aside by Judge John LaBuda in Sublette County Circuit Court; a misdemeanor trial calls for six jurors, court records show. Each misdemeanor has a maximum sentence of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

After his not guilty plea, Judge LaBuda released Respini on his own recognizance. He is represented by private attorney Rives White, a former associate of LaBuda. Sublette County Deputy Attorney Damon DeBernardi determined there was no conflict of interest.
