PINEDALE – Seven athletes on the Sublette County combined girls’ swim team are headed to the 2021 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Gillette on Nov. 4-5.
The roster includes seniors Mia Buchanan, Sierra Hattan and Adriaunna Myers along with juniors Rhonda Auradou, Morgan Grossman, Lilly Joseph and Rayne Wheeler.
The team closed out its regular season at the Last Chance Meet hosted by the Pinedale Aquatic Center on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Buchanan qualified in the 100 butterfly at the Last Chance and now has three events to choose from at State. Buchanan won the race at 1 minute, 10.37 seconds, more than 22 seconds ahead of her competition from Kemmerer.
Grossman secured first place in the 50-yard freestyle, completing the sprint in 27.52 seconds and qualifying in her fourth State event.
Junior Ceili Fallon took first place in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at 2:42.28. Fallon picked up second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:26.24.
Wheeler won the 200 freestyle, timing in at 2:26.88. Wheeler also scooped up a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke at 1:13.88.
In diving, senior Rachael Essington took first place with 112.85 points after six dives.
Senior Jacie Friel came in second place in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:14.67. Freshman Addison Statham placed second in the 200 individual medley at 3:13.58.
Coaches Ambr Seemann and Kursty Day were pleased with the results at the final meet before State.
“We added a few more events to our State race options,” Seeman said. “Mia Buchanan added a very competitive 100 butterfly time and Morgan Grossman added the 50 freestyle. Morgan has qualified in all freestyle events. Ceili fallon was 0.28 seconds from qualifying in the 200 individual medley. The 200 IM qualifying time is faster this year, and to miss it by such a small margin is difficult for the swimmer. Jacie Friel also swam a near-qualifying time in the backstroke. We are proud of everyone and the effort they’ve shown throughout the season.”
“Ceili Fallon showed amazing grit in her 200 individual IM on Thursday,” Day said. “Jacie also swam her heart out in the backstroke. It was an emotional meet for everyone. Swimming is not an easy sport, and every year times get faster. These athletes work very hard all season. For that, we are proud of them.”
