SUBLETTE COUNTY — Thefts are on the rise around Sublette County and the Sheriff’s Office is urging folks to secure their valuables and lock their doors. At least four thefts and one burglary were reported within five days from March 18 to March 22. The burglary was reported on March 18. Also that day, a person reported their vehicle was broken into and items were taken. A resident of the Redstone Subdivision in Pinedale reported that a black Motobecane fat tire bike which was a Christmas present was stolen from their home on March 18. On March 20, someone reported an item stolen from inside their truck. Similar reports of valuables taken from inside a vehicle were made on March 21 and again on March 22.
The thief or thieves snatched purses and cash left inside the vehicles, as well as other valuables that were easily accessible.
The SCSO issued a reminder to residents to take measures to protect themselves and their property by always locking their homes, sheds and storage units, vehicles and other locations where valuable items such as jewelry, ATVs, guns, tools and electronics may be present.
The SCSO recommends folks lock their homes at night, during the day while occupants are at work and even while at home. Vehicles should be locked anytime they’re not occupied.
Valuable items inside vehicles such as cash, wallets, purses and others should be placed in the vehicle’s console or otherwise out of sight to discourage thieves from breaking in.
Bicycles, ATVs, outdoor recreation equipment, yard maintenance equipment like lawnmowers, trailers, tools and toys can be easily snatched from driveways and yards and should be locked away whenever not in use.
The SCSO urges folks to look out for one another and report any suspicious activity to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office by calling 307-367-4378.
