SCSO receives grant for indoor drones

Posted

PINEDALE — The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Drone Team was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from Marathon Petroleum to help bolster the program’s capabilities for flying indoors. Using the funds, the SCSO purchased two new indoor capable DJI Avata drones through GenPac Drones.

According to Sgt. Travis Bingham, this missing component could be vital in future missions. The new drones give the drone team the ability to assist and even protect first responders by checking potentially unsafe indoor and confined spaces.

The SCSO launched its drone program in 2019 with two pilots and has deployed in more than 40 missions since then. Missions range from suspect apprehension, damage assessment, crash reconstruction, crime scene reconstruction, search and rescue and emergency management operations.
