SCAG ensures creativity starts ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends’

PINEDALE — The Sublette County Artists Guild (SCAG) recently hosted an arts and writing activity for students in fourth through eighth grades at the Pinedale Library’s Lovatt Room.

SCAG members channeled famed poet and author of “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” Shel Silverstein, when creating a forty foot long ‘sidewalk’ out of butcher paper that they taped to the concrete floor. The sidewalk was then divided into three foot sections with 13 budding artists each selecting a yard-long segment to display their art through pictures and words written in pen, pencil and bold colored markers.

Prior to putting pen to paper, the kids listened to Silverstein’s poetry read aloud by Madeline Murdock while the group enjoyed a snack of fresh vegetables. Liz Covill, Elaine Crumpley, MaryLynn Worl and Liz Wardell, all members of SCAG, answered questions, suggested rhymes and re-read poems during the activity.

Once completing their paper sidewalks, the students enjoyed ice cream and accolades.

SCAG appreciates the student artists who participated and the Sublette County Library for promoting use of its facility to encourage artistry and creative writing.
