Dear Editor,
If Wyoming does not take steps to outlaw the terrorizing, torturing and killing of its animals, it will be terribly disappointing to us and the world to know what type of intelligence is present in our state.
My husband’s family has ranched in Sublette County for 140 years. My family has had businesses, including ranching, here for 85 years. I am sure that none of our ancestors would have condoned running over animals with snow machines to satisfy some cowardly sicko’s sense of fun.
There is an honor to hunting and it is achieved by a good clean shot that does not cause the animal undue suffering.
Referring to last week’s front page article titled ‘Facing global outrage, Wyoming may still allow snowmobilers to run down wildlife’ I wonder what type of demented people take pleasure in treating animals in such a horrible way? I cannot relate to this but I certainly know it needs stopped.
The Wyoming legislature needs to initiate legal action. There should be a terribly stiff and threatening penalty for all animal cruelty! Sublette County’s State Representative, Albert Sommers, has a lot of power over what will happen. Citizens need to let him and others know how they feel about this. We need to protect Wyoming’s animals from cowardly, cruel, sick people all that we can.
Sincerely,
Tara Miller, Miller Land and Livestock, Big Piney, Wyo.
P.S. The ranchers I know are horrified by the wolf incident and want similar behavior stopped! I wish people would not assume that it would hurt a rancher’s feelings to end the running over of coyotes or any other of God’s creatures! Ranchers tend to love all animals and treat them with respect. We hate coyote-whacking and ending it would be a good place to start wising-up idiots in Wyoming.
