SUBLETTE COUNTY — The Sublette Prevention Coalition hosted AgriSafe representative Olivia Bury to share valuable resources about mental health during a series of forums held April 9-11 in Sublette County.

The groups hosted CALM, Conversations on Access to Lethal Means, a suicide prevention training that encourages safe storage of lethal means such as firearms and medications, on April 9 and 11 in Marbleton and Pinedale. Participants discussed how temporarily putting time and distance between a person experiencing a suicidal crisis and highly lethal means, may save a life.

Another forum, Cultivating a Healthy Mind: Mental Wellness for Youth, hosted in Marbleton on April 9 and in Pinedale on April 10, focused on decreasing stigma, improving mental health literacy and instilling positive coping skills for youth. Rates of anxiety and depression climb significantly during the ages of 12 to 17 and suicide is the second leading cause of death of youths in the United States.

AgriSafe, which provides the AgriStress crisis-care helpline in Wyoming, was formed in 2003 by rural nurses who believed that together they could improve the health and safety of farmers and ranchers. Based on rural science, AgriSafe builds the competency of health and safety professionals to deliver exceptional occupational agricultural health care. AgriSafe resources are available to everyone and can be accessed at www.agriSafe.org.
