Dear Editor,
What we are now calling the “Fall Freedom Festival” will still take place on September 28, and it will still take place on the grounds of the state Capitol. We’ve scaled back the idea of a march, and will simply hold the event at the capitol. We scaled back the idea for the Continental imagery and songs, and will instead hear from a list of storytellers, Latinos, dance groups, etc. The bottom line remains that what units us is greater than what divides us. What we have in common is our republic. What we have in common is freedom itself. Together, we will have the chance to join in our love of democracy and share what it means for all of us.
The event begins at 12:30 p.m., on the grounds of the state Capitol in Cheyenne. And heading into future years, we might still consider the ironic image of what we originally lacked as a country, but have gone to great pains to achieve, and are still working to make better. This nation will never be perfect, but with liberty preserved, we can continually work toward and achieve the promise of a “more perfect Union.”
Together on September 28, let us unite to show that this American adventure will continue for as long as we want it to.
Sincerely,
Connor Thompson, Cheyenne, Wyo.
