PINEDALE — The Pinedale Middle School seventh-and eighth-grade girls’ basketball team got into the spirit of the giving season by collecting food items to fill backpacks of food for children who might not otherwise have enough to eat on weekends. The Community Bak Pak Program distributes 800 packs of food per school per year, providing food to kids every single week.
The program is supported by a group of volunteers, community members, local businesses, the Pinedale Community Church, and most recently, a $3,100 grant from Wyoming’s First Lady Jennie Gordon’s No Hunger Wyoming Initiative. The funds were used to purchase additional backpacks and mini-fridges for local schools and allowed the program to expand to include some perishable items that are available throughout the day for counselors to share with hungry students.
Children can enroll in the free program to receive a backpack for the weekend by contacting their school counselor.
