SUBLETTE COUNTY – The Pinedale Fine Arts Council (PFAC) presents a summer filled with live music at both ends of the county for 2023.

The annual Soundcheck Summer Music Series kicks off in Pinedale on Saturday, June 24, with high-energy Boise Junkerdash band Hillfolk Noir headlining. Special guests White Rose Motor Oil, a Denver-based cow-punk duo will open. Music starts at 5 p.m. at the American Legion Park.

PFAC is also hosting a Big Piney and Marbleton Soundcheck concert season with support from the Big Piney-Marbleton Community Development.

On Thursday, July 20, The Lonesome Heroes, an indie-Cosmic Western band from Austin, Texas, performs at Centennial Park across from Burney’s in Big Piney. The show begins at 6 p.m.

Kimmi Bitter, a performing artist who defines her style as old-school country with a Cosmic West Coast twist, takes the stage at Encana Park in Marbleton on Thursday, Aug. 10. Showtime is at 6 p.m.

Shows are free to the public and are kid- and pet-friendly. Both shows in Big Piney and Marbleton feature food vendors and kids’ activities.

The artists

Built on more than 15 years of tradition, today’s Hillfolk Noir takes their acoustic guitar, double bass and “anything you can find at a hardware store” sound and integrates driving drums an an electrified sound, kicking down limitations to create a vibe that goes beyond their Americana, “junkerdash” roots.

Want to call it bluegrass’s trouble-making cousin? “Fine by us,” responds Hillfolk Noir. A bit of string-band blues? “Sure ‘nuff!” A concoction of electrified rockin’ soulful folksy witchcraft mayhem? “Now you’re talking, mama!”

White Rose Motor Oil embraces classic country roots and combines them with pop-infused beats. The Denver duo’s new album is a stripped-down affair that recalls Van Lear Rose – Loretta Lynn’s gritty collaboration with former White Stripes frontman Jack White.

Hailing from the funky town of Austin, The Lonesome Heroes inhabit the “cosmic junction” of indie rock and country. Led by frotnman Rich Russell’s never-ending call of the road, the group have toured

extensively behind two acclaimed albums across continents on both sides of the world, while never straying too far from their “Cosmic Americana” roots.

Centered around the vein of old-school country with a Cosmic West Coast twist, Kimmi Bitter and the Westside Twang are here to transport people on a retro journey into the year 1962 through their nostalgic original songs.

“A disciple of previous decades of music, Bitter’s style fuses traditional country and Americana vibes that hearken to eras gone by,” says Maddie Fry of Nashville’s music publication Music Mecca.
