CASPER – The Pinedale High School Nordic ski team rounded out a successful season with strong performances at the Wyoming Nordic Skiing State Championships on Casper Mountain from Feb. 23-24.
Friday consisted of a 5-kilometer freestyle race, followed by a 10-kilometer classic course on Saturday.
Sophomore Olivia Tolson broke into the top 10 in the girls’ 5K freestyle on Friday, clocking in at 16 minutes, 53.09 seconds. The sophomore took 17th place in the 10K classic on Saturday with a time of 39:17.34.
Tolson’s placings at State contributed additional points to the sophomore’s tally accumulated over the course of the season and Tolson captured First-Team All-State honors for 2024.
On Friday, sophomore Bryn Arne secured 39th place in the girls’ 5K, timing in at 21:03.84. Fellow sophomore Alyce Hayward came in 47th place at 22:47.45, with sophomore Evalyn Smith in 50th place at 52:02.54 and sophomore Libby Olson placing 59th at 27:32.60.
In the boys’ 5K, freshman Nyle Swenson led the pack with a 32nd place finish, posting a time of 16:41.76. Sophomore Keaton Jones came in 42nd place at 17:45.35, with fellow sophomore Kaden Bingham in 56th at 19:05.77 and sophomore Aiden Bucy in 60th place at 19:50.56.
Arne took 35th place in Saturday’s 10K race, clocking in at 45:25.19. Hayward placed 48th at 51:05.46, Smith 50th at 52:02.54 and Olson 51st at 52:06.98.
In the boys’ 10K, Swenson came in 39th place, crossing the finish line in 38:51.00. Jones placed 47th at 40:03.28, with sophomore Fisher Mills in 52nd place at 41:24.12, Bingham in 59th at 44:03.02 and Bucy in 60th at 44:08.83.
