Moyes' development should be denied

Posted

Dear Editor,

When I first heard a couple of years ago about the rezoning from agricultural to residential of roughly 300 acres that is on the west side of Highway 191, I couldnt imagine why anyone would want to build houses in such a pristine view shed. This huge piece is about half way between Daniel and The Rim Station. It is in pastureland that is often inhabited by pronghorn, mule deer and cattle with a clear view of the distant Wyoming Range. It is that open space that those of us who have spent our lives in Wyoming value so much.

I attended the planning and zoning meeting on Oct. 17 in hopes that between that rezone and the preliminary plat approval by Sublette Planning and Zoning, people had come to their senses and would not approve a dense residential development in this very agricultural location.

It was a long, complicated meeting. There were many issues brought to the attention of all in attendance. With the exception of the land developer, all public comments made in person or remotely, were against approval of the development.

The main reasons to deny the development included:

• Its in sage grouse core area

• The subdivision has heavy overlap with big game winter range and migration corridors

• The Wyoming Game and Fish has recommended very specific ways to design the development to accommodate the needs of mule deer and pronghorn. As presented, this subdivision was not conforming to these accommodations

• A significant increase in traffic

• A noticeably dense area of population (small lots compared to Forty Rod on the other side of the highway)

Approval was given to this development at the end of the discussion. I dont think this approval is in line with what Sublette County residents want. I hope people will show up at the Nov. 8 County Commissioners meeting and urge them to deny this development in its current form.

Sincerely,
