PINEDALE — The talent took center stage at the Sheppard Auditorium Oct. 23-25 as dozens of Sublette County residents of all ages put on epic performances of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical. The cast consisted of more than 40 residents, including students, who expertly executed the complicated choreography, timing, comedy, and strong vocal ranges necessary to bring the musical to life.

Matilda’s story is one of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination, sharp mind, and telekinetic powers, dare to take a stand and change her own destiny. Pinedale’s Mila Bennett was cast as Matilda, and wowed audiences with her powerful vocals as she moved from the stage to the aisles of the auditorium. Judy Wigginton, also of Pinedale, brought the fearsome and wicked headmistress Agatha Trunchbull to life with over the top makeup and comedic timing. Matilda’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood were played by Kendall Horrocks and Gracie Parsons. Matilda’s brother was played by Jonathan Brown. Miss Honey, Matilda’s adoring teacher, was played by Tilly Evans. Librarian Mrs. Phelps was played by Anne Kaiser.

According to the Pinedale Theatre Company, a musical production like Matilda costs more than $60,000 to bring to the community. Sponsors included Sublette BOCES, the Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming Community Foundation, Foundation 23, and the Sublette County Rec Board.
