Marbleton transforms into Area 23 for Halloween haunts

MARBLETON — Marbleton hosted its annual Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree on Thursday, Oct. 23, complete with the community’s favorite Halloween festivities, including the pumpkin walk, chili and pumpkin pie contests, the haunted hallway, and cake walk. Marbleton Town Hall was transformed to look like Area 23—Sublette County’s version of Area 51. Out front, a large UFO crash-landed on top of a group of skeletons. The unidentified flying object was designed and created by Marbleton maintenance worker Bonner Brown.
The pumpkin pie contest, which had close to a dozen entries, was judged by Jack Hess, Terrie Springman, and Ellen Meeks, with Sue Kinikin winning the first-place ribbon. Mike Knoll claimed the blue ribbon in the homemade chili contest, with his crockpot of chili standing out to the panel of judges—Lolly Blackmon, Mack Rawhouser, and Kenny Meeks—as the best of the 17 entries.

Children and adults alike brought their best, most festive gourds for the pumpkin walk. Autumn Sylte, age 3, won the PeeWee Pumpkin category with her colorful pumpkin painted with ghosts. In the Junior Division, Addie Locker’s pumpkin, painted like Van Gogh’s Starry Night, stole the show, earning her first place. In the adult category, Allie Sylte claimed first place for transforming her pumpkin into a cute and colorful witch.
