Lady Punchers triumph against Farson

“The Farson game was another fun and great win for us,” said Head Coach Kinsy Voss. “I’m really proud of Lady Red for getting after it and not losing focus after the first set. We are starting to see our offense come together nicely. It was also a great win to head into Regionals with. We will be preparing this week for the game against Shoshoni on Friday.”

Lady Punchers triumph against Farson

BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School Lady Puncher volleyball team stepped onto the court for the second set against Farson after falling to the Lady Pronghorn in the first set at the final home game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Farson managed to pull out a narrow win in a cliffhanger that went beyond 25 points.

Digging deep, the Lady Punchers resolved to defend the home court as the second set opened.

Freshman Jada Banks served up a pair of aces. Sophomore Kodee Greene fired off two kills, assisted both times by sophomore Kaity Shreve.

Junior Micah Strong delivered a powerful kill and Greene followed up with an ace. Junior Addison Losik and sophomore Brylie Bailey each slammed over a kill, pulling Big Piney ahead, 10-2.

The Lady Punchers maintained their significant lead throughout the remainder of the second set to win, 25-9. The victory set the foundation for Big Piney to triumph in the third and fourth set to round out the regular season with a decisive 3-1 non-conference victory against Farson before the home crowd.

Big Piney finished its regular season as the No. 2 seed in the 2A Southwest Quadrant, posting a 4-2 conference record.

The Lady Punchers will square off against Shoshoni, the No. 3 seed in the Northwest Quadrant, to open the 2A West Regional Volleyball Tournament hosted by Riverton on Oct. 27-28. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday.

Big Piney scored early in the first set with two aces by junior Kendra Willoughby. Greene spiked over a kill and reached up for two blocks.

Willoughby aced a third serve and Big Piney remained ahead with a kill by Greene.

Farson tied the set at 17 points. The Lady Punchers regained the initiative when Strong made a kill.

Farson then edged up at 19 points. The Lady Pronghorns came up short returning a serve by Strong and the set reached another stalemate at 20 points.

Kills by Bailey and Greene tied the set once more at 24 points. Farson scored a point before Greene responded with a block and the set deadlocked at 25 points.

Farson pulled back into the lead to score game point, 27-25.

Big Piney controlled the scoreboard in the second set. Midway into the set, Bailey kept Big Piney ahead with a pair of kills.

Sophomore Lizzy Brandt served up three aces. Greene made a block and two kills. Banks aced point 24 and Greene scored game point, 25-9, with a block.

Buoyed by the win, Big Piney kicked off the third set with a 4-point run, including two aces by Willoughby and a block from Greene. Losik leapt up to block an attempt by Farson to score and Greene tipped over a point.

Farson struck out serving the ball. Strong scored with a set and Losik delivered three kills. Greene made another block and posted three kills. Strong bumped over a point.

Farson tangled with the net returning a serve from Banks. Greene powered over game point, 25-16, assisted by Shreve.

The Lady Punchers continued to dominate in the fourth set. Greene posted the first point for Big Piney. Farson then served the ball out of bounds twice.

Strong bumped a point over the net. Bailey and Losik made a kill apiece and Greene reached up for a block.

Banks and Losik each spiked a kill into Farson territory. Strong set up a point. Farson met the net returning deep digs by Brandt and Shreve.

Banks aced game point, 25-13.
