Lady Punchers compete at Big Horn Tournament

BIG HORN – The Big Piney High School Lady Punchers’ volleyball team traveled across the state to compete at the annual Big Horn Invitational in Sheridan County on Sept. 8-9. The competition featured 2A conference opponents from across Wyoming, along with a few 1A programs.

Friday featured pool play, with the Lady Punchers displaying their grit through a busy day consisting of a full lineup of four games.

The action commenced with a game against 2A Southwest rival Pine Bluffs. Big Piney fell, 2-0 (25-18 and 25-14).

In the subsequent game, the Lady Punchers came up short against 1A opponent Riverside, 2-0 (25-14 in both sets).

On Friday afternoon, Big Piney squared off against 2A Northwest rival Tongue River and was defeated, 2-0 (25-13 and 25-9).

The fourth game pitted the Lady Punchers against 2A Northwest program Wright. Big Piney fell, 2-0 (25-11 in both sets).

On Saturday, participants faced off in bracket play with Big Piney in the maroon bracket. The Lady Punchers took on 2A Northwest opponent Shoshoni in bracket play, coming up short, 2-0 (25-17 and 25-11).

Big Piney hosts Wyoming Indian High School for Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 15. Freshman play at 3 p.m., followed by junior varsity at 4 p.m. and varsity at 5 p.m. Homecoming action continues on Saturday with the Lady Punchers hosting St. Stephens. Junior varsity play at 10 a.m. with varsity at 11 a.m.
