Golfers step to fall sports tee


WYOMING – High School fall sports are underway and golfers teed off for their first practice on Aug. 9.

The Pinedale High School golf team hit the ground running at the two-day season opener Snake River Shootout on Aug. 11 and 12. Day one featured action at the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club. The Wranglers climbed back on the bus for a second day of play at Cedar Creek Golf Course at Star Valley Ranch.

On Aug. 16-17, Pinedale golfers competed in the Star Valley Invitational at Valley View Golf Course in Afton.

Snake River Shootout

Five boys represented Pinedale in the varsity division. Pinedale finished fifth overall after two days of play with 831 total strokes.

Brody Hamby took 14th place, shooting a 90 the first day and 96 the second day for an overall score of 186.

Owen McMillen placed 15th with a 192 after two days. He shot a 93 the first day, followed by 99 on day two.

Blade Hibbert, a Big Piney High School student playing for the Wranglers, came in 24th place with an overall score of 215. He shot 104 on day one and 111 on day two.

Josh Gosar finished 30th with 238 strokes. He shot 124 the first day and improved to 114 the second day.

Mason Currah placed 31st with 258, improving from 133 on day one to 125 the second day.

Star Valley Invitational

Pinedale fielded the same five athletes in boys’ varsity and one athlete in the junior varsity division. Pinedale placed sixth overall in boys’ varsity with 743 strokes.

McMillen led the Wranglers, taking 19th with a 179 following two consistent days of 90 and 89, respectively.

Hamby played reliably with 89 the first day and 91 the second day to total 180, putting him in 21st place overall.

Hibbert came in 24th place with a cumulative total of 181. He shot 93 the first day and improved to 88 on the second.

Gosar played two consistent days with 101 and 102, totaling 203 and putting him in 34th place.

Currah shot a 128 on day one and made significant gains on day two with a 104. Currah placed 38th overall at 232.

Ryley Lea took 16th place in boys’ junior varsity with 112 on day one and 117 on day two for a total of 229.

The junior varsity tournament scheduled in Pinedale on Wednesday, Aug. 18, was canceled due to weather.
