WYOMING – The Sublette County combined girls’ swim team battled through a hectic schedule featuring back-to-back meets at Worland and Powell before going on to score a 145-130 victory against its host at the Lyman Duel on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The action opened at the Worland Quint on Friday, Sept. 9. Pinedale competed against four other schools to place third, tallying 197 points and beating Buffalo and Newcastle.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, Sublette County athletes took seventh place at the annual Gene Dozah Invitational in Powell with 81 points.
Seniors Lilly Joseph and Rayne Wheeler became the latest members of the swim team to join the State roster. Joseph qualified in diving in Powell, placing sixth with 165.40 points following six dives.
Wheeler punched her ticket in the 200 individual medley the Worland with a fourth-place finish clocked in at 2 minutes, 39.33 seconds. The senior picked up silver in the 100 breaststroke at the Quint, posting a time of 1:22.32.
Senior Morgan Grossman captured first place in the 200 freestyle at Worland with a time of 2:17.98, pulling ahead of the runner-up from Buffalo by seven-tenths of a second. She earned bronze in the 500 freestyle on Friday, finishing the event in 6:10.08.
Rhonda Auradou, a senior, snapped up third place in diving at Worland with 165.25 points.
“We had some huge time drops this weekend,” said Co-Head Coach Kursty Day. “This season is off to a great start. I truly enjoy working with this group of young ladies – they are hard working and very positive toward each other and the teams around them.”
The meets at Worland and Powell provided opportunities for athletes to “see their dedication and hard work pay off,” said Co-Head Coach Ambr Seemann.
“With great competition, our athletes were challenged in every race,” she added. “Great attitudes, team spirit and sportsmanship prevailed and were noted by coaches from opposing teams.”
Lyman – top-three highlights
Auradou captured first place in diving, totaling 162.05 points. Joseph took home silver with 150.60 points.
Hitting the finish line at 1:03.84, Grossman picked up gold in the 100 freestyle. She snagged third place in the 200 freestyle at 2:27.01.
The 100 butterfly featured friendly competition between teammates with sophomore Jolynn Jones pulling into first place at 1:19.24 and Wheeler placing second at 1:22.98.
Wheeler also earned silver in the 100 backstroke, timing in at 1:15.76.
Junior Addy Levitt secured second place in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 33.31 seconds.
Shelby Scott, a freshman, scooped up silver in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 7:33.87.
Sophomore Emma York finished third in both the 200 freestyle, at 2:47.15, and 100 freestyle, at 1:11.84. Fellow sophomore Alexis Thompson came in third place in the 200 individual medley at 3:00.19.
The Sublette County 200 medley relay team earned silver. Scott, Thompson, Jones and Libby Olson timed in at 2:28.52. Levitt, freshman Kaylea Mortensen, sophomore KaLee Bohnet and freshman Aurora Rees finished less than 10 seconds later to take bronze at 2:38.09.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Scott, Jones, York and Thompson took second place at 2:09.82 and Joseph, Auradou, Levitt and freshman Alyce Hayward came in third place at 2:15.58.
Freshmen Bryn Arne, Hadlee Francis, Catie Langlois and Mariaha Morgan picked up bronze in the 400 freestyle relay, timed in at 6:30.96.
