LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Don't let Virginia-based groups tell you how to vote in Sublette County

Posted

Dear Editor,

Well, those big city easterners still trust their own folklore. You know what I mean, don’t you? That we rural residents are total bumpkins. That they can pull the wool over the eyes of us backwoods and, to their way of thinking, backwards hicks. Don’t believe me?

I just received another snarky mailer from a VIRGINIA-based group telling me not to vote for Albert Sommers. Calling themselves “Make Liberty Win,” their expensive, four-color advertisement listed their address as 1603 Capitol Avenue. I know that place – it’s the location of the MAJESTIC HOTEL in Cheyenne.

Their website shows their actual address as FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA. Their donors funding their multi-million dollar slander campaigns hail from, to name a few, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, and other non-Wyoming states.

I guess those states welcome out-of-town busybodies meddling in their politics and applaud smearing the name of a private citizen running for public office. They’re willing to throw big money against our community, interfere in something that’s not going to affect them and try to tell us what to do.

But, here in Sublette, we hayseeds are better than that. When we see a fake ad claiming a rancher is selling their land to China or Russia, we know it’s like manure on a corral rail. Foul-smelling and full of lies, uh, uh, flies. So, to all you high-falutin’ East Coast public relations firms, we rubes have a message too. Be like horse (…) and hit the trail.
