PINEDALE — As part of its commitment to filling the future Sublette County Hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility with Wyoming-made artwork, the Sublette County Health Foundation is proud to announce the selection of Pinedale artist Kyla Oren for one of the facility’s first commissioned pieces.
Oren’s digital artwork, titled “Healing Waters,” will be featured on a 12-foot-long padded sound baffle hanging in the hospital’s dining room, blending functionality with stunning local imagery. The piece depicts the waterfalls at the base of Fremont Peak, a well-known and beloved landmark of the Wind River Range. “At a close gaze, you can see the image is made up of simple shapes that reveal the scene from farther away,” Oren explained. “I wanted this piece to reflect a view that is both deeply familiar and uniquely Pinedale.”
A celebration of Wyoming art
The Sublette County Health Foundation Art Committee — comprised of David K. Klaren, Delsa Allen, George Kahrl, and Dave Bell — put out a call for artists in December 2024 and received an overwhelming 176 digital submissions from across Wyoming. The only requirements? Artists had to be Wyoming residents, and their artwork needed to scale to cover the 12’ x 6’ sound baffle.
“We were thrilled with the response from artists across the state,” said Allen. “Selecting just one piece was a challenge, but Kyla’s work truly captured the spirit of our landscape and the healing atmosphere we envision for this space.”
Oren, a 24-year-old Pinedale native, was inspired by the project’s mission. “When I saw the call for artists, I immediately fell in love with the idea of filling the hospital with locally made art,” she shared. “I’m honored to contribute to a place that will serve our community for generations to come.”
Additional opportunities for local artists
As the community counts down to the July 1 opening of the new facility, the Art Committee is seeking additional artists to take part in this historic project. There are still opportunities to showcase artwork in two major areas — the hospital lobby and the Sublette Center lobby — as well as 10 smaller spaces throughout the 84,000-square-foot facility.
Local artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Submissions are due by February 21. Selected artists will receive a stipend of up to $500 for use of their artwork.
