Dear Editor,

Laura Pearson, candidate for WY Senate District 14, visited my house in Pinedale on the day of primary voting, offering a vision that is both narrow minded and based in selective story telling and hypocrisy. Below are just a few of her campaign promises that need significant scrutiny prior to electing her to a position of influence.

Pro Legacy, Blue Collar, Wyoming Industry: You can support these industries while also opening opportunities for renewable and sustainable options. Wind, solar and geothermal should get as many government subsidies (yes, your industries get many more subsidies than you obviously care to admit) as oil/gas, agriculture and grazing. You can support both legacy-minded and future-driven solutions.

Wyoming First: Your “federal overreach” allowed you to graze sheep and lambs at basically pennies on the dollar, on the backs of all taxpayers, and on public land for 6 generations. Your “federal overreach” tried to allow Medicaid Expansion that would have provided access to healthcare for Wyomingites. Maybe your slogan should be Wyoming: Stronger Together.

Pro Family: I love this! I’m assuming this also includes support for same-sex marriage, adoption and surrogacy for those who also would love to raise children. You mention educational freedom as well - excellent! The freedom for teachers to discuss any topic they would like, including gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, unconventional family arrangements and accurate histories of Black, Brown and Native people.

Pro Life: But you also say you support “Medical Freedom”, which would indicate… Pro Choice. So, which is it?

Medical Freedom: YES! Excellent! The freedom for people to make choices over their own bodies, what a concept! Wyoming, listen up - Laura Pearson is supporting medical freedom. This should include rights to terminate pregnancies, access to family planning, and gender affirming care. After all, this is medical freedom.

Sincerely,

Noah Chutz, Pinedale, Wyo.
